"Operated by Dr. Kenneth McKenzie from 1732-1755, the Apothecary was also home to Dr Kenneth's wife Joanna, daughter Nancy and son William.  McKenzie Apothecary was crucial to diagnosing illness, preparing medicines, performing minor surgeries and tooth extractions.  Herbal medicines and remedies were also sold.  The early architecture featured two rooms.  One on the main floor and one in the half story above.  This was the simplest form of 18th century architecture."
