"Bruton Parish Church"
The Bruton Parish was created in 1674. The building which still
stands today, began construction in 1711 and was
completed in 1715. Bruton Parish Church had all
the required furnishings for the time, Bibles, Prayer Books, Altar,
Font, Cushions, Surplice for Clergy and Choir Members
and Reredo Tablets.
In 1755, the church obtained its first organ.
As the American Revolutionary War began in 1776,
the Bruton Parish Church was attended by the
Virginia leaders of the time. Among those who
worshipped there were Thomas Jefferson,
George Washington,
Richard Henry Lee, George Wythe,
Patrick Henry and George Mason.
