"Bruton Parish Church"

The Bruton Parish was created in 1674. The building which still

stands today, began construction in 1711 and was

completed in 1715. Bruton Parish Church had all

the required furnishings for the time, Bibles, Prayer Books, Altar,

Font, Cushions, Surplice for Clergy and Choir Members

and Reredo Tablets.

In 1755, the church obtained its first organ.

As the American Revolutionary War began in 1776,

the Bruton Parish Church was attended by the

Virginia leaders of the time. Among those who

worshipped there were Thomas Jefferson,

George Washington,

Richard Henry Lee, George Wythe,

Patrick Henry and George Mason.
