A Gathering of Scissors...

We have a soft spot here at the
Cottonwood House for Antique Scissors.
Their worn handles,
time-darkened blades and different shapes
makes us wonder about the hands that
held them and the stitches they created.
What is their Story?
Here are some of the ways we display our collection
of Antique Scissors.

Did you know that Hands have gathered Needle and Thread
for Thousands of Years?
Decorative Embroidery goes back
to around 1323 BC...
By the 1700s, Embroidery was an established pastime among
well-to-do Ladies in Britain and America.
Girls learned decorative needlework as part of their education.
Samplers were often stitched even by the very young.

What Stories would they Tell?
